3. Asking if you can interrupt them
If you haven’t stopped after all your previous attempts to end the conversation, it may be time to be more assertive. You can ask them politely, but confidently, if they mind if they interrupt them. Some people may realize that the conversation lasted for a long time and some may ask you to let them end their thinking.
Here it’s good to let them finish, as you really have no choice. But once you feel that they will move to another topic, this is your chance to interrupt them again.
4. Turning the tables
After interrupting it, you can “flip the tables.” Instead of stopping the conversation completely, you can add a comment about it. Adding a similar illogical story about yourself, your dog, or a friend may actually have a positive effect. You will get them to experience how they feel and they may stop talking.
